NCII (non-consensual intimate imagery) means nude or sexual images or videos of a person shared, or threatened to be shared, without their consent — including AI-generated fakes.
NCII covers images taken with consent but shared without it, images obtained through hacking, theft or hidden cameras, images used in sextortion, and synthetic 'deepfake' imagery. 'Revenge porn' is still the most searched term, but many support organisations prefer 'intimate image abuse', because the motive is often not revenge and the person depicted did not choose to make pornography.
Most platforms and search engines prohibit NCII and offer dedicated reporting forms. In the US, the TAKE IT DOWN Act requires covered platforms to remove it within 48 hours of a valid request, and most states have their own laws; many other countries, including the UK, treat sharing it as a criminal offence. StopNCII.org lets adults create a digital fingerprint (hash) of an image on their own device so participating platforms can detect and block copies without the image ever being uploaded.
In practice
If this is happening to you, you are not to blame, and you do not have to handle it alone. Free help can solve a lot: StopNCII.org for adults, NCMEC's Take It Down (takeitdown.ncmec.org) for images taken under 18, and helplines such as the CCRI Image Abuse Helpline (US, 844-878-2274) or the Revenge Porn Helpline (UK, 0345 6000 459). Save the URLs before reporting. If you are in immediate danger, contact local emergency services.
