Remove Tripadvisor reviews that are fake, false or threatening

We remove Tripadvisor reviews that break Tripadvisor's guidelines or the law — reviews from people who never stayed or dined, competitors, former staff, guests using a review as leverage, and false factual claims — by reporting them with your booking evidence and, where needed, a legal notice. It costs $350 per review, usually within 48–72 hours, and you pay only when it's removed: if we can't remove it, you don't pay and any deposit is refunded in full.

Scope

What we can — and can’t — remove

We remove

  • Reviews from people who never stayed, dined or booked — no reservation, check-in or payment on record
  • Reviews posted on the wrong listing that describe a neighbouring or sister property
  • Reviews by competitors, current or former staff, or anyone else with a conflict of interest
  • Reviews from guests who threatened a bad review to get a refund, upgrade or something free
  • False factual claims — bed bugs, food poisoning or a theft that didn't happen — that amount to defamation
  • Reviews exposing staff or guests' private details, or containing harassment or hate speech

We won’t remove

  • Honest reviews of a real stay or meal, including harsh comments about rooms, food, noise or staff.
  • Reviews written after a genuine dispute — a damage charge, a refused refund, a cancellation — unless they state false facts.
  • Low scores, sarcasm and opinions such as 'overpriced' or 'tired decor' that don't assert anything untrue.
  • Reviews on competitors' listings, or anything aimed at silencing critics.
  • Cases with no valid ground. If one would need a court order, we tell you before you commit.

How it works

How we get it removed

  1. Send us the review and the dates

Share the link and any stay or booking dates mentioned. We only remove Tripadvisor reviews that break Tripadvisor's guidelines or the law, so we check that first and tell you straight away if there's no ground.

  2. We pull your booking evidence

We check the reviewer against your reservation or property-management system, card payments, booking-site reservations and any messages, and note everything that conflicts with the review: dates, room types, menu items, even the property itself.

  3. We report, then escalate

We report the review through Tripadvisor's owner tools with that evidence. If it is unlawful, for example defamatory, we add a legal notice; for Tripadvisor's EU service, a Digital Services Act notice requires a decision you can challenge.

  4. You pay when it's gone

Success means the review no longer appears on your Tripadvisor listing. You pay only when it's removed. If we can't remove it, you don't pay — any deposit is refunded in full.

Already reported it?

Tripadvisor decided the review stays. What next?

Tripadvisor's moderators decide on what the report shows them, so a second report only works if it adds something new: booking-system extracts, payment records, proof the reviewer stayed at another property, or messages linking a refund demand to a threat. If the review makes false statements of fact, a defamation notice puts the question on a legal footing. For Tripadvisor's EU service, a Digital Services Act notice obliges it to tell you its decision, which you can challenge through its complaint system or a certified out-of-court dispute body. If only a court order would work, we tell you up front.

What Tripadvisor will take down — and what it won't

Tripadvisor's guidelines centre on first-hand experience: a review has to describe a real visit by the person writing it, at the place it is posted on. That's where many removable hotel and restaurant reviews fall down. The reviewer never stayed, is describing a different property, or has a reason to hurt you, such as running a competing business or having left your staff on bad terms.

Tripadvisor also prohibits using the threat of a bad review to extract refunds, upgrades or freebies. If a guest makes that threat, keep the messages or write down exactly what was said and when, and report it to Tripadvisor, ideally before any review appears. A review that follows a documented threat is far easier to challenge than one where the threat was only spoken at the front desk.

The reviews that feel unfair but usually stay

A guest you charged for damage, refused a late refund or asked to leave is still a guest. If they describe that experience, even angrily and one-sidedly, the review is generally genuine and no honest service can remove it. What changes the picture is a false factual claim: inventing bed bugs, food poisoning or a theft. Those statements can be checked, and if your records show they're untrue, defamation may apply.

If you're unsure, split the review into opinions and facts. Opinions such as 'rude', 'dirty' or 'not worth the money' stay. Specific facts you can disprove with booking records, inspection reports, maintenance logs or timestamps are where a removal case starts. In the US, a review from someone who never stayed is also a fake review under the FTC's consumer-review rule, which strengthens the case.

Replying to a bad Tripadvisor review without making it worse

A calm management response costs nothing and is read by future guests. Thank them, address the substance in a sentence or two, and invite them to contact you directly. Don't publish booking details, names or anything from the guest's file; in the EU and UK that can breach data-protection law and hand the reviewer a fresh complaint.

Don't argue the facts in detail in public either. Anything you may later need for a removal case belongs in the report, where Tripadvisor's moderators can weigh it, not in a reply that turns one bad review into a public argument.

Questions

Frequently asked

Can hotels delete Tripadvisor reviews?

No. Hotels, restaurants and attractions can't delete reviews from their own listing. They can post a management response and report a review that breaks Tripadvisor's guidelines, and Tripadvisor decides. Only the reviewer can remove their own review.

Can you get a false Tripadvisor review removed?

Yes, when you can show it's false or isn't first-hand. A review from someone with no booking, or one describing a stay at another property, breaks Tripadvisor's guidelines. A review that invents a fact, such as an infestation, an illness or a theft, and that your records contradict can also be challenged as defamatory.

A guest threatened a bad review unless we refunded them. What should we do?

Don't give in, and don't argue. Keep the messages or write down exactly what was said and when, then report the threat to Tripadvisor through your owner account. If the review is posted afterwards, that record is the strongest evidence you can have, and we build the report around it.

How long does it take to remove a Tripadvisor review?

We work to a 48–72 hour turnaround once a report or notice is filed. Tripadvisor's own review can take longer, especially on a second report, and anything needing a court order takes considerably longer. We tell you which applies before you commit.

Should I reply to a review I want removed?

Yes. A short, polite response won't stop a removal and reassures future guests. Keep it general, don't share the guest's details and don't contradict them point by point; save the evidence for the report, where it counts.

How much does it cost to remove a Tripadvisor review?

$350 per review, flat. You pay only when it's removed — if we can't remove it, you don't pay and any deposit is refunded in full. If several reviews appeared in a sudden, coordinated burst, we assess them together and quote only the ones with a real ground.
